Medical tourism in Türkiye hits record 2 million visitors

Türkiye has established itself as a premier destination for medical tourism, outpacing global competitors with high-quality healthcare services and experienced medical professionals.
The number of health tourists visiting Türkiye reached 2 million in 2024, a significant increase from 1.4 million in 2023 and 1.38 million in 2022, according to official figures. This growth reflects Türkiye’s strengthened healthcare infrastructure and expansion into new medical specialties.
Türkiye targets $12 billion as medical tourism numbers climb
Türkiye generated approximately $10 billion from medical tourism last year, with the Ministry of Health setting a target of $12 billion for this year.
“Turkish scientists have made significant contributions to rhinoplasty literature with creative perspectives and techniques,” said Professor Dr. Ismail Kuran, former president of the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (2012-2014) and board member of the American Rhinoplasty Society. “They are frequently invited as speakers to international conferences and receive special interest.”
The country’s appeal to foreign patients stems from its modern healthcare facilities, internationally experienced specialists, and cost-effective services.
Turkish doctors have become an ideal solution for foreign patients and tourists, particularly in specialties such as cardiac surgery, aesthetic procedures, and dental treatments.
Patients from Europe and the Middle East travel long distances for treatment in Türkiye, with competitive pricing compared to European countries being a major factor in their decisions.
Türkiye has also emerged as an educational hub for foreign medical professionals. Doctors from countries like Kyrgyzstan receive training in Turkish hospitals to gain experience they can apply in their home countries.
