Over 500 orthopedic specialists from 83 countries convened in Istanbul for the “The World Meeting of Arthroplasty Experts” (WEMA) hosted with the support of Acıbadem University’s International Joint Health Application and Research Center.

Advancements in prosthetic surgery

Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist professor Dr. Remzi Tozun emphasized the life-changing impact of prosthetic surgery, which offers patients improved mobility, a pain-free life, and enhanced quality of life.

“Thanks to new technologies, we can perform prosthetic surgeries on patients ranging from 16 years old to 102 years old. The key is adopting a treatment approach tailored to the individual patient,” Tozun said.

During the event, Tozun highlighted Türkiye’s prominence in healthcare, especially in the field of orthopedics. “Our scientific knowledge and advanced technology distinguish us. This meeting allowed experts from around the world to witness Türkiye’s progress in orthopedics,” he said.

At the congress, where the shared expertise of the world’s leading arthroplasty surgeons was presented, participants introduced 300 contentious topics. Out of these, 64 were selected for in-depth discussions.

Additionally, the outcomes of this congress are set to be published in the Journal of Arthroplasty in the coming months.
