German Michael Wollenberg, world’s greatest fish chef, dies in car accident in Türkiye
Michelin-starred German chef Michael Wollenberg, visiting Türkiye with his caravan, died following a collision with a truck near Istanbul. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
It was noted that the chef’s two dogs, with whom he lived, were with him at the time of the accident and that their fate remains unknown. Wollenberg’s death was confirmed by a former partner, according to the German press.
His former partner also revealed that Wollenberg had a dream of settling on the island of Cyprus and starting a new life as he was tired of Germany and politics.
Wollenberg was once voted the world’s best fish chef. He ran the “Amadeus” restaurant in the “Insel” nightclub on the Alster in Hamburg-Rotherbaum, which has been awarded a Michelin star.
His other restaurants include “Marinas” in Harburg, “Eichenkrug” in Volksdorf and “Marlin” and “Wattkorn” in Langenhorn.
Former professional boxer Alexander Petkovic was a long-time friend of Wollenberg. The 44-year-old artist said on his Instagram account that he was “deeply affected” by the news of his death.
“Michael was not only a good friend, but also a very special person. I will always remember his warm charisma and the memories we shared together,” Petkovic wrote.
Petkovic also offered his condolences to Wollenberg’s family, saying: “My thoughts are with you and I am sure Michael has a special place in heaven. May his soul rest in peace.”
