4.1 magnitude earthquake hits Istanbul, aftershocks continue for second day

Aftershocks continued Thursday following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Istanbul a day earlier.
A 4.1 magnitude aftershock was felt at 7:21 a.m. local time, authorities said.
The initial quake, which hit on Wednesday, caused brief panic across parts of the city, but no immediate reports of casualties were confirmed.
According to the Istanbul Governorship, 151 individuals were injured from panic-induced jumps from windows and balconies after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on April 23. All of the injured are currently being treated in hospitals, with no reports of life-threatening injuries.
Seismologists have identified the epicenter of the earthquake as being located along the Kumburgaz Fault, a segment of the North Anatolian Fault Zone, known for accumulating seismic tension.
Leading Turkish geoscientist Professor Naci Gorur emphasized that the fault is currently “locked and loading,” indicating that further caution is needed in the region.
