Turkish institutions conduct 'Digital Media Literacy & Digital Art' workshop in Rome An International Digital Media Literacy and Digital Art Workshop was held in Rome, the capital of Italy. The International Workshop on Digital Media Literacy and Digital Art took place in Rome, Italy.

Hosted by the Azerbaijan-Italy Cultural Center in Rome, the event was organized in collaboration with Turkiye’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK), the Yunus Emre Institute, the Azerbaijan Embassy in Rome, and the Istanbul Digital Art Festival (IDAF). A digital art exhibition was also inaugurated as part of the event.

Around 20 digital artworks curated by IDAF were showcased for art enthusiasts.

RTUK promotes digital awareness across all segments

RTUK Chairman Ebubekir Sahin, attending the event and touring the exhibition, expressed his satisfaction with the organization. He highlighted the significance of the workshop, stating, “In this era where the digital world is rapidly evolving, digital media literacy and digital art are two essential concepts that enhance both creative and critical thinking skills.”

Sahin emphasized the crucial role of digital media literacy, not only for accessing accurate information and combating disinformation but also for fostering ethical and responsible media consumption. He added, “As RTUK, we organize various educational programs and events to raise awareness, and we continue to launch initiatives that promote conscious media consumption across society.”

Digital art revolutionizes artistic expression

Discussing the evolution of art in the digital age, Sahin noted the transformative impact of technology on artistic expression. “Technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are providing new perspectives on art, allowing people not only to view a piece of art but also to interact with it.”

Sahin also pointed out that digital media literacy and digital art hold great potential to develop individuals’ creative and critical thinking abilities. He said, “RTUK will continue to inform all segments of society about digital media literacy and digital art, ensuring awareness is raised through media platforms. Media and art are not just cultural production and consumption mechanisms; they are vital components for the democratization and development of societies. Our future efforts will continue in this direction.”

Cultural diplomacy and artistic exchange in focus

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Rome, Rashad Aslanov, who hosted the event, also delivered a speech during the opening. He remarked, “This is an intriguing exhibition, featuring works by Nabat Garakhanova, a highly talented artist from Azerbaijan and Türkiye. What you will see tonight represents art, AI-driven art, culture, and the future. The pieces on display are drawn from Azerbaijani culture, including miniatures and iconic landmarks of Azerbaijan. You will also see works created using artificial intelligence.”

IDAF highlights digital art as the future of creativity

IDAF Director Nabat Garakhanova shared insights into the future of digital art, stating, “Digital art is the art of the future.” She added that IDAF will celebrate its 5th anniversary in 2025. “Through digital art and media literacy, we aim to provide an experience for everyone, from A to Z and ages 7 to 70, fostering development and engagement with digital art,” said Garakhanova.

Garakhanova also mentioned that the Istanbul Digital Art Festival organizes similar exhibitions in various cities, showcasing the works of Turkish youth and the AI artists they collaborate with.

Esra Ozturk, Art Director of IDAF, emphasized the festival’s annual growth, stating, “Every year, we incorporate new and different technologies. Our exhibitions often blend art, science, and technology. With each passing year, we continue to develop the festival and introduce new artists, ensuring the festival’s expansion.”

The International Workshop on Digital Media Literacy and Digital Art in Rome, organized by Turkish institutions, serves as a significant step toward enhancing public awareness and engagement in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. With influential figures like RTUK Chairman Ebubekir Sahin advocating for digital literacy and innovative artistic expression, this event underscores the importance of combining technology and creativity to foster critical thinking and cultural exchange.
