Van’s dextrous craftworkers export handmade Baglamas globally
These baglamas are dispatched to countries such as U.S., New Zealand and Germany
Tevhid Topal, a manufacturer of musical instruments in Van, sends the baglamas, he has been producing with immense hard work for many years now, to both domestic and international markets.
Topal, who introduced the baglama manufacturing profession to his region, took over from his father in 1992.
He sent the baglamas he produced on special orders after extensive efforts across the country.
Master Tevhid, who strives to pass on his profession to future generations, also imparts special lessons during his introduced courses.
Tevhid, who has been working intensively on baglama production recently, cannot keep up with the demands.
Master Tevhid, who continues his production work in his workshop, sends his baglamas to countries such as the U.S., New Zealand and Germany, as well as Turkiye.
‘ALWAYS WORKED WITH LOVE’
Speaking to Ihlas News Agency (IHA) correspondent, baglama master Topal shared that he started learning the instrument at the age of 12 with his father.
Explaining that he moved to Van in 1992 after Erzurum and continued his profession there, Topal said: “I have always worked with love for this profession. Recently, I have been giving courses on baglama production. I train students in the workshop.”
“If you are not patient and do not like working with wood, you cannot make a baglama. Some do this work in mass production, but I can produce at most two baglamas a month. Therefore, excellent products emerge. Currently, my 25 to 30-year-old baglamas are being sold in the market,” he added.
Delving upon the details about how he sees great interest in the people to whom he sends the baglamas, Tevhid noted that he immediately receives new orders after he dispatches his orders.
He also mentioned that he receives special orders from Turkiye as well as from abroad.
Fırat Turan, who started as an apprentice, shared that he has been striving to become a master for over 10 years in the profession.
Turan concluded that he is trying to sustain the continuity of the profession with the help of his colleagues.
