The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in Ankara has kicked off a two-day Cultural Festival aimed at enhancing cooperation and cultural exchange between Türkiye and the UAE.

Held at the Capital Nation’s Garden and open to the public, the festival’s opening ceremony was attended by Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Serdar Cam, UAE Ambassador to Ankara, Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, as well as foreign diplomats and a large number of guests.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Cam emphasized the significance of such cultural events, which foster closer relations between two friendly and brotherly nations. He highlighted how these events allow future generations to experience and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of both countries, further strengthening their ties.

Cam also noted the importance of preserving cultural diversity in the 21st century. In a world where uniformity is increasingly imposed, events like these help countries enhance and promote their unique cultural assets. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding through shared experiences, including food, music, and art, which strengthen the bonds of friendship between peoples.

Highlighting the UAE’s rapid development and cultural richness, Cam expressed Türkiye’s pride in the UAE’s economic and international achievements, affirming that Türkiye will continue to contribute to these deepening ties.

He also underscored the critical role that strong and capable nations, such as the UAE, play in ensuring peace and stability in the region. Cam added, “Türkiye is committed to fostering peace and harmony in the region and will continue to work in solidarity with all nations.”

Targeting 60 million tourists by year-end

Touching on Türkiye’s economic prowess, Cam outlined the nation’s growing influence, with a near $1.3 trillion economy, $60 billion in tourism revenue, and close to $300 billion in export potential. He mentioned Türkiye’s goal of attracting 60 million tourists this year, up from the 55 million it hosted last year, making it a top European tourism destination post-pandemic.

Cam concluded his remarks by expressing hope for peace in the Muslim world, particularly in Palestine and Gaza, calling for an end to the ongoing bloodshed.

UAE-Türkiye relations celebrate 51st anniversary

UAE Ambassador Al Dhaheri echoed the sentiments of friendship, celebrating 51 years of strong bilateral relations between the UAE and Türkiye. He emphasized that the festival highlights the deep cultural bonds and shared values between the two nations, serving as an excellent opportunity to share heritage and foster understanding.

Al Dhaheri noted the significant growth in UAE-Türkiye relations, particularly in trade, economy, education, and culture, underscoring how cultural exchanges build bridges between nations. He added that the festival showcases the UAE’s authentic cultural heritage, from traditional crafts to art and music, reflecting its rich identity.

The Ambassador thanked all parties involved in organizing the event, including both countries’ Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs, and expressed optimism that the UAE Cultural Week will serve as a milestone in strengthening bilateral ties and unlocking new opportunities for cooperation.

Festival to continue in Istanbul

The UAE Embassy in Ankara is hosting the week-long Cultural Festival as part of its efforts to celebrate the friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Following the events in Ankara, the festival will continue in Istanbul’s Umraniye district at the 15 July Martyrs’ Square from September 19-20.

Visitors will enjoy exhibitions of art, sand art performances, traditional Emirati cuisine, clothing, and cultural displays, as well as live performances of oud and qanun music.

This cultural festival marks a significant milestone in the deepening of relations between the UAE and Türkiye, paving the way for further collaboration in the future.
