Türkiye’s Yunus Emre Institute brings traditional Turkish archery to Oman
The Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) in Oman is showcasing traditional Turkish archery through an exciting new course, part of the “Kemankes Project,” running from Aug. 1 to 14 during the Zufar Festival.
According to YEE’s announcement, the course, in collaboration with the Archers Foundation, aims to promote the history of Turkish archery and train athletes, thereby fostering cross-cultural dialogue.
The event is supported by various organizations including the Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Zufar General Directorate, Türkiye’s Muscat Embassy, Turkish Airlines, the Archers Foundation and the Japan Karate Academy Oman (JKAOman).
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Muscat Muhammed Hekimoglu visited the event and met with participants.
“This activity marks the beginning of the Yunus Emre Institute’s cultural efforts in the Sultanate of Oman. We look forward to seeing more events that bring together Oman’s rich cultural heritage and our own cultural legacy,” he stated.
The course, which began on Aug. 1 and runs until Aug. 14, includes instruction on the history, techniques, significance in Islamic and Turkish culture, and fundamental terms of Turkish archery, along with practical training.
