Türkiye continues to promote its cultural presence globally as the total number of items registered in the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Türkiye National Inventory,” which records Türkiye’s intangible cultural heritage values, increased to 40.

The development comes after 15 more items were added following efforts by the Antalya Provincial Determination Board of Intangible Cultural Heritage 2023.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted the Convention for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003, primarily to protect living cultural heritage.

Intangible cultural heritage is defined as the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge and skills that communities, groups, and, in some cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage, including the related tools and cultural spaces.

Intangible cultural heritage means the shared memory of humanity, passed down from generation to generation and kept alive by passing it on.

Türkiye officially joined the UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006.
