Sanliurfa Archaeological Museum: A journey through time
Opened in 2015, the Sanliurfa Archaeological Museum, home to approximately 5,000 artifacts, is a profound testament to history.
Located near the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Gobeklitepe and Karahantepe, the museum has welcomed 1,340,643 visitors to date.
Spanning 60,000 square meters, with 35,000 square meters enclosed, the museum showcases artifacts from the Neolithic period to the present.
The exhibits are arranged chronologically and presented with visual reconstructions, offering visitors a deep dive into the past.
Museum Director Celal Uludag stated the museum ranks among the world’s most distinguished institutions.
“The Sanliurfa Archaeological Museum can be defined as one of Türkiye’s largest museum complexes. It is truly among the most important museums globally in terms of both architecture and the artifacts it houses,” Uludag said.
He highlighted the museum’s role as a prime example of modern museology and its continuous updates with discoveries.
Timeless experience for visitors
The museum provides a spacious and airy environment, allowing visitors to explore comfortably. With 33 reconstructions and 14 exhibition halls, the museum is regularly updated with new finds from ongoing excavations.
Additionally, it hosts a variety of cultural and artistic events, including music performances, talks, conferences, and art exhibitions.
Visitor Yasin Sahin from Ankara praised the museum’s impressive design and the opportunity to experience a journey through history.
“The design is magnificent. They have arranged the exhibits in chronological order. It’s a unique experience to explore human development through the ages. It was a wonderful experience for us,” Sahin said.
The museum continues to attract both local and international visitors and remains committed to presenting new artifacts.
