Rihanna criticized for $6.3 million-worth performance in Indian wedding
Fans express mixed reactions to Rihanna’s performance, criticizing her lack of energy despite a hefty $6.3 million fee at the Ambani pre-wedding event
Rihanna has encountered criticism following her performance at the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.
Despite an impressive payday of $6.3 million, some fans and observers have voiced their dissatisfaction, suggesting that the artist delivered less than her usual zeal.
The grand event, orchestrated by Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries and Asia’s richest man, took place in Jamnagar, Gujarat. It was part of a lavish three-day celebration that included many celebrities and high-profile figures, such as Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and magician David Blaine.
Rihanna’s set list featured 19 of her greatest hits, including chart-toppers like ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Diamonds.’ However, footage from the event led to mixed reactions online.
A Twitter user remarked, “Rihanna really said she’s doing the bare minimum, collecting her check and go.” Another user bluntly stated, “She is giving us more and more reasons for us to cancel her. The funny thing about it is she doesn’t even care anyway. So I’m not even mad at her anymore” in response to a video clip of the performance.
This performance marked Rihanna’s return to the stage for a full-length concert for the first time since her appearance at the Superbowl last year. The Ambani event, known for its opulence and extravagance, was a fitting venue for such a comeback.
The criticism of Rihanna’s performance is somewhat overshadowed by the sheer scale of the Ambani pre-wedding bash. The event featured an array of luxuries, from charter jets for guests to a selection of 500 dishes prepared by around 100 chefs.
Guests were also treated to traditional ceremonies in a temple complex and a visit to an animal rescue center, with a unique “jungle fever” dress code.
The Ambani family is no stranger to lavish celebrations. Mukesh Ambani’s daughter Isha’s wedding in 2018 was a similarly grand affair, described by some as a mini-Davos summit with guests like former US Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.
