Pamukkale aims to break all records this year
Pamukkale, which broke the daily entrance record with 18,569 visitors on the last day of the Ramadan Feast holiday, welcomed 481,816 visitors in the first 4 months, an increase of 55% compared to the same period last year
The number of visitors to Pamukkale, where white travertines, ancient ruins and healing thermal pools intertwine, increased by 55% in the first 4 months compared to the same period last year, approaching 482,000.
Pamukkale, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, wants to continue to increase the number of visitors after the Covid-19 pandemic with a record this year as it did last year.
According to data from the Denizli Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the number of visitors to Pamukkale Ruins was 309,634 in the January-April period of last year, while 481,816 visitors were recorded in the same period of this year which is an increase of 55%.
The number of visitors to the ruins in April increased by 95% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 155,866 with effect of the Ramadan Feast holiday. On April 12, the third day of the Eid holiday, Pamukkale broke its daily visitor record with 18,569 visitors.
The ruins, which can be visited until midnight with the introduction of night museology, is expected to break last year’s record of 2.2 million visitors and approach 3 million.
Increase higher than expected
Gazi Murat Sen, President of Denizli Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (DENTUROD), told an Anadolu Agency reporter that the upward trend in tourism in Türkiye can also be seen at the Pamukkale Ruins.
Stating that they expected an increase for 2024, but the 4-month figures were well above what their expectations, Sen said:
“We had guests who could not enter and returned. In order to better host these guests in the coming years, it would be positive to increase the number of turnstiles, especially at the entrance gates, and to increase the number of entrance personnel. Night museums are also being promoted. We expect that night visits of foreign groups, who refrain from visiting Pamukkale especially in the summer heat, will make a significant contribution to the entrance figures. 2024 will be a year when all records are broken for both our country and Pamukkale.”
Gazi Murat Sen stated that photos shared on social media have an important effect on the increase in visitors to Pamukkale, and pointed out that visitors who celebrate their special days such as weddings and graduations by posing on the travertines make a great contribution to promoting it.
