The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, announced the restoration of the frescoes in the Main Rock Church of Sumela Monastery in Trabzon.

This monastery, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, has seen its frescoes returned to their original splendor through specialized techniques.

Minister Ersoy shared the news on social media, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

“We are restoring the frescoes in the Main Rock Church of Sumela Monastery to their original state. Particularly significant scenes, such as the ‘Last Supper,’ have been restored to their former glory using special techniques,” he stated.

He further stressed the commitment to safeguarding cultural and historical assets for future generations.

“We continue to protect and carry forward our cultural properties and historical values, which we see as great treasures to be entrusted to future generations,” Ersoy said.

This restoration project aims to ensure that these valuable cultural artifacts are preserved and appreciated by future generations.

The meticulous work on the frescoes is part of broader efforts to maintain and restore Türkiye’s rich cultural heritage.
