Legendary Turkish producer and director Osman Sinav passes away at 69

Osman Sinav, Türkiye’s legendary producer, director, and screenwriter behind iconic TV series such as Kurtlar Vadisi (Valley of the Wolves), Ekmek Teknesi, and Deli Yurek, has passed away at the age of 69 in Istanbul.

Sinav, who had been undergoing cancer treatment for an extended period, played a pivotal role in the careers of many famous personalities in the Turkish entertainment industry.

A statement regarding his death was shared on the social media account of Sinegraf Film, expressing: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our esteemed producer and director, Osman Sinav, who shaped the history of Turkish television throughout his artistic life and left a significant mark with the TV series and films he directed. We wish him eternal peace and extend our condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire art community.”

Visionary behind Türkiye’s most iconic TV series

Born in 1958 in Burdur, Sinav studied painting and textile design from 1975 to 1979, before pursuing cinema and television at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts.

He began his career in the advertising sector as a copywriter and director. In 1984, he founded the film production company Sinegraf and directed more than 500 commercials between 1984 and 1987.

Sinav then transitioned into cinema, directing films such as Bir Muharririn Olumu, Yalanci Safak, Atlikarinca, Hunkarin Bir Gunu, Kucuk Dunya, Aska Kimse Yok, Kapilari Acmak, and Yalanci for television.

In cinema, he directed Gerilla, Deli Yurek Bumerang Cehennemi, Pars Kiraz Operasyonu, Uzun Hikaye, and Ask Kirmizi.

Series popular around the world

In 1991, Sinav shifted his focus to TV series, earning recognition as a master director. He produced and directed 25 beloved series, including Super Baba, Deli Yurek, Hayat Baglari, Ekmek Teknesi, Aci Hayat, Kurtlar Vadisi, Sakarya Firat, and Sen Anlat Karadeniz.

His series gained widespread popularity not only in Türkiye but also in numerous countries around the world. Sinav was also a member of the Directors Association and the Television and Cinema Film Producers Union. Additionally, he served as a faculty member at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Prof. Sami Sekeroglu Cinema-TV Center.
