“Kung Fu Panda 4” animation topped the domestic box office, earning a solid $58.3 million from 4,035 theaters in its opening weekend.

In a resounding return to form, “Kung Fu Panda 4” has seized the domestic box office crown, amassing a formidable $58.3 million from 4,035 theaters in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates. This performance not only tops the charts for the weekend but also marks the most successful debut in the animated franchise’s history, save for the original “Kung Fu Panda,” which launched with $60 million in 2008.

Surpassing the opening weekends of its predecessors, the latest installment outshone 2016’s “Kung Fu Panda 3,” which opened to $41 million, and 2011’s “Kung Fu Panda 2,” which started with $47.6 million, not adjusted for inflation. This achievement signals a robust revival for the beloved series, blending martial arts action with comedic charm.

Internationally, “Kung Fu Panda 4” made a notable impact, collecting $22 million from 41 markets. This global reception brings its worldwide earnings to an impressive $80 million, underscoring the animated comedy’s enduring appeal across diverse audiences.

Meanwhile, “Dune: Part Two” gracefully ceded the top spot to “Kung Fu Panda 4,” still securing a strong $46 million from 4,074 theaters. The sci-fi epic experienced a 44% drop in ticket sales from its debut weekend, a commendable hold for a blockbuster of its magnitude, elevating its North American cumulative to $157 million.

The animated comedy’s triumph heralds a significant moment for the “Kung Fu Panda” series, demonstrating its lasting popularity and the audience’s appetite for its unique blend of humor, heart, and action-packed sequences. As “Kung Fu Panda 4” continues its theatrical run, it sets a new benchmark for the franchise and signals a promising outlook for animated features at the box office.
