Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition titled “Chiharu Shiota: Between Worlds” will open at Istanbul Modern on Sept. 6, 2024.

This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Türkiye.

The exhibition will feature works specifically created by Shiota for Türkiye. Organized in partnership with the Japan Foundation and with the support of the Japanese Embassy and Consulate General of Japan in Istanbul, the exhibition also receives backing from Arnica.

Curated by Oyku Ozsoy Sagnak, chief curator of Istanbul Modern, and assistant curator Yazin Ozturk, the exhibition will showcase Shiota’s diverse artistic expressions, including performance, video, installation and painting.

A highlight of the exhibition will be Shiota’s large-scale installation piece titled “Between Worlds.”

Inspired by Istanbul’s unique position at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, this work offers an opportunity to explore personal and collective memory through individual narratives.

The exhibition will be open for viewing from until April 20, 2025.
