At the “100th Anniversary Japan-Türkiye Diplomatic Relations Piano Concert,” Tempei performed a wide repertoire, featuring pieces such as “Ichigo-Ichie,” “Love’s Demise,” “Castle in the Sky,” “Suite ‘Rising Soul’,” “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,” “Suite ‘Iceland’,” and “Phoenix” among others.
‘Events like these bring the 2 nations closer’
Speaking to an Anadolu Agency correspondent, Japan’s Consul General in Istanbul Kenichi Kasahara, expressed his delight at hosting such a concert in one of Istanbul’s historic venues. Kasahara highlighted the diverse attendance of Turkish guests and the pride in showcasing a Japanese pianist to them.
Noting the century-long friendship between Türkiye and Japan, Kasahara said, “Even though the two countries are separated by a 12-hour flight, bringing a Japanese artist here to perform doesn’t reduce the physical distance, but it shortens the emotional distance between the nations. Events like this bring us closer, and we are proud to organize them.”
‘Türkiye and Japan share many similarities’
Nakamura Tempei shared that his interest in piano started through the influence of his older brother. “I performed in Türkiye two years ago and loved it here. The audience’s enthusiasm made a lasting impression. I feel very connected to Türkiye, which is why I wanted to return,” he said.
Tempei shared that his father, who was involved in trade with Türkiye, introduced him to the country. “Since then, I’ve been captivated by Turkish culture.”
Tempei expressed deep respect for Turkish culture, adding, “I find many similarities between Türkiye and Japan. Both are ancient nations with rich histories. Additionally, Türkiye is a culturally influential country, not only in Central Asia but globally. This fascinates me.”

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, I hope this cultural interaction continues to grow, with both nations enriching one another,” he said.
