The international cultural heritage fair and conference “8th Heritage Istanbul,” kicked off on Wednesday with a program held at Lutfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Heritage Istanbul, the conservation, restoration, archaeology, museum and librarianship technologies fair supported by the most important public stakeholders of the sector such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, Istanbul Governorship, hosts exhibitors and speakers from many different countries.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gul, Fatih Mayor M. Ergun Turan, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture Sultan Raev and experts in the field attended the opening program of the fair and conference, which aims to raise awareness of cultural heritage and develop services and technologies.

Governor of Istanbul Davut Gul made an opening speech at the program and then visited the exhibition area. While visiting the stands, Gul also took photos with participants.

Along with the fair, the conference series, heritage talks and workshops will continue until May 17.

It is a duty for all of us to protect, preserve and transmit cultural richness to future generations. Stating that Istanbul is the “mother of cities” and has a great cultural richness, Governor Gul said that protecting and transferring this richness to the future is one of the most important responsibilities.

Gul continued his speech, “Perhaps the most important benefit of this organization is to bring all stakeholders together. Our professors said that restoration is not a construction job. We all know that. In this respect, talking, discussing, seeing and sharing good examples, from those working in restoration to technical staff, the material to be used, the sensitivity of the conservation boards in this sense, the people and sponsors allocating money for these works will make a very important contribution to this process.”
