The first cat to enter the visitor’s floor in Türkiye’s iconic Hagia Sophia became the center of attention for the locals and the tourists, with many calling the cat the new ‘Gli’ – the famous cat that passed away in 2020.
The famous Gli was born in 2004. She was raised in Hagia Sophia, where she garnered much media attention when the Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque in 2020.

As per the new plan devised by the authorities, Haga Sophia is now divided into two floors – the area segregated for worshippers and the floor exclusive for the tourists so the worshippers aren’t disturbed. You can find the new ‘Gil’ on the visitor’s floor, interacting with the locals and the tourists.
Those who came to the visitor’s floor lined up to pet the cat and then took photos with him.
