Rammstein files criminal complaint against Der Spiegel over falsified reporting
In other news, Till Lindemann has filed a criminal complaint against the German publication Der Spiegel over their reporting on the sexual misconduct allegations made against him last year. The legal action follows the publication’s coverage of the accusations, which Lindemann strongly denies.
The allegations surfaced in May 2023, when a female fan accused Lindemann of misconduct at a pre-concert party in Lithuania. Another woman, Shelby Lynn from Northern Ireland, also came forward, claiming she was recruited for sex but was not assaulted. Lindemann’s legal team described the accusations as “untrue” and “without exception.”
Der Spiegel published a controversial report on June 10, 2023, detailing multiple allegations against Lindemann, focusing on alleged afterparties associated with the band. The singer’s legal team, Schertz Bergmann, successfully halted further stories from the publication, with the Hamburg Regional Court ruling that there was insufficient evidence to support the claims.
Despite the investigation being dropped in August 2023, Lindemann’s reputation was affected.
He was dropped by his book publisher, Kiepenheuer & Witsch, and the Berlin public prosecutor’s office launched an investigation, which ultimately ended without charges.
Lindemann has now raised a criminal complaint with the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, alleging falsified documents and an attempt to commit trial fraud in the publication’s reporting.
The band, in a statement made in August 2023, expressed how the past year’s events have affected them, acknowledging the challenges and support they received from families, fans, and their team. They concluded by emphasizing that despite the turmoil, “The path continues.”
