Galata Tower reopens doors to visitors as restoration wraps up
Istanbul’s iconic Galata Tower again opened doors to visitors after the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism wrapped up its restoration guided by modern technology and under the supervision of experts.
The tower, which has garnered significant interest from local and international visitors, features a panoramic viewing balcony on the 8th floor, where visitors take photos with a breathtaking view of the metropolis in the background.
On the 6th floor, young visitors engaged in the interactive video game “Find Istanbul” alongside their families. Moreover, on the 2nd floor, visitors immersed themselves in a simulation showcasing an animated reenactment of Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi’s legendary flight from Galata Tower to Uskudar.
Expert academics guided the implementation of projects using modern technologies based on technical analyses and georadar reports on the reinforced concrete structures added to Galata Tower between 1964 and 1967.
Scientific and artistic principles played a pivotal role during the restoration process. The structure has been arranged to preserve its cultural heritage while hosting visitors and migratory birds.
Moreover, under the new visitor plan devised by the authorities, a maximum of 100 people will be allowed per hour inside the historic tower.
