Kahlo’s Blue House, which has been turned into a museum, welcomes 500,000 art lovers a year in the capital, Mexico City

The two-story Frida Kahlo Museum in the Colonia del Carmen neighborhood of Mexico City welcomes 500,000 art lovers every year.

Kahlo is known as an iconic painter worldwide for her love life with fellow artist Diego Rivera, her health issues and her perseverance in continuing her art despite all the odds.

The two-story museum, decorated with a courtyard, consists of four sections.

Built-in 1904 and later restored, the house features bedrooms, a studio area, a spacious kitchen and a dining room.

In the house where Kahlo was born, grew up, and lived with her husband, some artworks reflect Mexican folk art, Kahlo’s personal art collection, photographs, postcards, letters and artworks by her husband, Diego Rivera.

The museum, where visitors often form queues to enter and nearly 500,000 art enthusiasts from around the world visit annually, include a small cafe and a souvenir shop for Kahlo’s fans.
