French pianist Jacky Terrasson to perform at Istanbul’s CRR
French pianist and composer Jacques-Laurent ‘Jacky’ Terrasson will take the stage at CRR Concert Hall on April 12, 2024
Jacky Terrasson, one of the most impressive pianists of modern jazz since the 1990s, will meet music lovers at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall on April 12.
In a statement before the concert, the French musician said he performed in Istanbul for the first time in 1994 and said, “I have always loved Istanbul culturally and architecturally. I am excited to meet with the audience in Istanbul again. I am really happy that I will be there the day before the concert for a little sightseeing.”
Terrasson was first introduced to jazz music through his mother’s small record collection. His new album, “Moving On,” will be released on April 19 with his own record label, Earth—Sounds. “Music tells a part of my life, the years I played in different countries, on different stages, with different musicians. As a musician, I like the movement and sharing that life brings.”
With singers Camille Bertault and Kareen Guiock contributing to the album, Terrasson reflects on the elusiveness of pinpointing the exact time spent crafting it. “I’m constantly brainstorming new sounds and approaches to melodies and songs,” he explains. “That’s why I typically enter recording sessions 75% prepared, embracing spontaneity, surprises, and the unforeseen.”
Stating that he recorded half of the album in France and the other half in New York, Terrasson said about the impact of economic crises, wars and epidemics on his music: “All this craziness affects me personally, but I try not to let it affect my music. In fact, I prefer to use music to fight negative energies and push it toward positivity, happiness and hope.”
Jacky Terrasson will be accompanied by Sylvain Romano on double bass and Lukmil Perez on drums.
