EU ambassadors meet in Sagalassos to explore cultural heritage

The European Union’s delegation to Türkiye organized a special event for ambassadors and their families from 18 countries to promote Türkiye’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Within the scope of this event, the delegation visited the ancient city of Sagalassos, the capital of the ancient city of Psidia, located in the Aglasun district of Burdur.

Head of Excavation Peter Talloen informed the delegation about the settlement, history and excavation taking place in the city.

The delegation took a souvenir photo in front of the Antonine Fountain, one of the ancient city’s most important artifacts, and then drank water from the “Fountain of Love.”

After the tour, six kinds of treats prepared by Bilkent University Archaeology Department student Belen Gurkaynak using recipes from sources extracted from the ancient city of Sagalassos were also served.

Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, stated that the visit was impressive, thanking the professors who guided the visit and thanked Belgian Ambassador Paul Huynen.

Huynen emphasized the importance of the excavations that have been going on in Sagalassos for 25 years and stated that it is important to continue the investments.

The governor of Burdur Turker Oksuz spoke about the city’s rich cultural heritage and expressed the need to accelerate the excavation works and transfer this heritage to future generations.

At the end of the event, gifts were presented to the participants. Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of the European Union’s delegation to Türkiye, led the trip, which was attended by ambassadors from many countries and important figures from Türkiye.
