Egyptian-American comedian Youssef says he won’t vote for Biden
Egyptian-American comedian Bassem Youssef expressed his displeasure with the U.S. administration’s Gaza policy, criticizing the Democratic Party and Joe Biden for ‘not heeding a simple request for a cease-fire’
Egyptian-American comedian Bassem Youssef criticized the U.S. administration’s Gaza policy and said he would not vote for U.S. President Joe Biden in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. He emphasized the failure of the U.S. administration to heed a simple request for a cease-fire in the region.
Youssef said he cannot support former U.S. President Donald Trump due to fundamental disagreements with the values he represents, but he does not want to reward Biden with his vote.
Youssef, a heart surgeon turned comedian, attracted millions of viewers worldwide in an interview with Britain’s Piers Morgan in which he criticized Israel’s war on Gaza and the Western narrative of Arabs and Palestinians.
Asked about the challenges to expressing his views in the U.S., Youssef said there are challenges everywhere in the world.
“I mean, there’s a lot of flaws in the American democratic system, in the media, but at least we have space to speak up. And I’m grateful for that and I use that space,” he added.
Youssef performs in many states in the U.S., giving two separate shows in Arabic and English. Contrary to popular belief, he almost never touches on Gaza in his shows. Youssef, who started his career as a cardiac surgeon and became a comedian, satirizes Islamophobia, xenophobia and differences between cultures.
