Directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve, this sequel to 2021’s “Dune” continues the saga of Paul Atreides and Chani as they ally with the planet’s inhabitants, the Fremen, in a quest for vengeance for Paul’s father’s death.
The film, set in a distant future where noble families govern planets, draws from Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, exploring themes of politics, religion and environmentalism. Villeneuve, at the premiere, highlighted the transition from the foundational narrative of the first film to a more engaging cinematic experience in the sequel.

Critics have praised the franchise for its visual storytelling and depth. Returning cast members include Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica and Javier Bardem as Stilgar, with newcomers Austin Butler and Florence Pugh joining as Feyd-Rautha and Princess Irulan, respectively. Both Butler and Pugh expressed their excitement about being part of the project, with Butler finding enjoyment in his villainous role.
“Dune: Part Two,” originally scheduled for release earlier, faced delays due to a strike by Hollywood actors. The eagerly awaited sequel is now set to premiere worldwide on Feb. 28.
