Berlin to Istanbul: 60-kg doner kebab awaits German president
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will savor a whopping 60 kilograms of doner kebab during his upcoming visit to Türkiye
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to enjoy a hefty portion of doner kebab, weighing in at 60 kilograms (133 pounds), during his visit to Türkiye next week, according to a member of his delegation.
Arif Keles, proprietor of a doner kebab establishment in Berlin and part of Steinmeier’s entourage, revealed to Anadolu that he would serve doner in Istanbul on the evening of April 22 at the German statesman’s invitation.
“It makes me proud to get such an invitation from the presidency. They wanted me to be present during his three-day trip. I’m very happy,” said Keles, expressing his delight.
He mentioned that his family has operated a doner shop in Berlin for approximately 40 years.
Steinmeier’s visit to Türkiye is scheduled from next Monday through Wednesday.
Doner kebab, initially introduced to Germany by Turkish “guest workers” decades ago, has evolved from being a Turkish delicacy to a beloved culinary delight among many Germans, irrespective of their migrant background.
