The 270-kilogram copper ‘alem,’ which was lowered as part of the ongoing restoration of the Galata Tower, was installed on top in four pieces

In line with the restoration efforts being conducted at the Galata Tower since Nov. 1, 2023, the 270-kilogram copper “Alem” on the cone of the 674-year-old historical tower was mounted atop in four pieces with the help of a crane in an operation lasting about 5 hours.

‘Alem’ was removed from the historic tower and conservation work was carried out in the building of the Directorate of Surveying and Monuments Museum with the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The golden ‘alem’ of the Galata Tower, with the Bosphorus in the background, created a spectacle.

The restoration work will be completed toward the end of April.
