A giant oven dating back to 4,200-4,400 B.C. has been discovered during excavation work led by an international team coordinated by an Italian team at Arslantepe Hoyuk in Malatya.

Professor Francesca Balossi Restelli stated that the oven is over 2 meters long and is in very good condition. It is believed that the oven was used for cooking and might have been shared by different families.

Restelli noted, “We think this oven was used for cooking. We hypothesize that different families might have used this oven during that period.”

Alongside the oven, excavations have uncovered a red stone and a bone seal dating back to 3,600 B.C.

These seals are thought to provide new insights into the daily lives of ancient communities in the region.
