47-year-old Iranian woman turns scrap metals into sculptures

Maryam Kazemi quit her job as a finance manager at a hospital to pursue her childhood dream and started transforming automobile parts such as waste metal, bolts, nuts and chains into interesting sculptures

Meryem Kazemi, a 47-year-old Iranian woman, transforms car parts such as scrap metal, bolts, nuts and chains into interesting sculptures in her own workshop.

Kazemi quit her job as a finance manager, where she worked for 18 years, to pursue her childhood dream. After quitting her job, she opened her workshop in 2019 and started making eye-catching sculptures.

Kazemi, who transforms waste material into art, says she loves her job, even though it is quite challenging.

‘Women power’

Kazemi said she loves what she does. “I started this job in my workshop for about 4-5 years. I am very interested in this job. I worked as a finance manager for 18 years and was bored with my job. I pursued my dreams to do the job I was interested in. Now I am doing what I love,” she said.

Kazemi said that her work garnered much attention, especially as a woman who runs her workshop recycling waste material into art.

“People are very impressed when they see a woman doing this job outside and on social media. I am one of the few people who are currently running this workshop in Iran. Works made from metal and car scraps attract a lot of attention. There are many people who follow my work, especially from the Persian Gulf countries and European countries. They also buy my artworks,” Kazemi shared.
