2nd Turkish Textile Biennial with ‘Waves of Fabric’ theme to debut in Türkiye’s Alanya, Gazipasa
The 2nd International Turkish Textile Biennial is set to take place in the historic and natural landscapes of Alanya and Gazipasa, offering a unique artistic journey between Feb. 22 and April 13.
Hosted by the Gazipasa District Governorship, the biennial is supported by Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Alanya Municipality, Gazipasa Agricultural, Cultural, Tourism, Education and Aid Association, Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation, Alanya Tourism Operators Association, Alanya University and the Chamber of Commerce.
Fusion of art, nature and textile heritage
This year’s biennial embraces the theme “Wave Fabric,” drawing inspiration from the endless waves of the Mediterranean and their imprint on the shores.
The event will unfold in breathtaking historical sites, including Selinus and Lamos Ancient Cities, Yalan Dunya Cave, Kizil Kule (Red Tower), Alanya Shipyard, and Syedra Ancient City.
Curated by Nihat Ozdal, the biennial will explore the connection between the rhythmic patterns of waves and the structured designs of textiles, highlighting the intricate relationship between nature and human craftsmanship.
Weaving stories through textile art
Bringing together artists from around the world, the biennial will delve into the historical role of the Mediterranean’s water resources in weaving and silk production.
It will also address contemporary environmental concerns, emphasizing that textiles are not just materials but also carriers of stories and collective memory.
Through weaving workshops, art performances, exhibitions, and panel discussions, visitors will experience a multidisciplinary artistic dialogue that blends history, culture, and sustainability.
