U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen met with Türkiye’s Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek and Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Annual Meetings.

Yellen commended Türkiye for its firm commitment to predictable and effective economic policies, which she said to have contributed to significant improvements in the country’s economy.

Türkiye’s economic improvement praised

In a statement released by the U.S. Treasury Department, Yellen praised Türkiye’s efforts for implementing robust economic policies, noting that these policies have played a crucial role in stabilizing the economy and curbing inflation.

She highlighted the positive trend of inflation, showing signs of decline because of these measures.

Discussion on sanctions compliance

Yellen and Simsek also discussed the importance of compliance with international sanctions. Both parties emphasized the need to prevent Türkiye’s financial system from being exploited by individuals or groups attempting to evade sanctions or engage in terrorist activities.
