Türkiye to develop 3 gold fields in Niger in 2025: Energy Minister Bayraktar
The Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed that Türkiye is moving forward with the development of three gold fields in Niger in 2025 on Thursday.
Bayraktar commented, “We have signed three new field agreements in the Agadez region, and we aim to produce the first gold in 2025.”
Türkiye began conducting exploration activities for gold in Niger during mid-2024 under the guidance of the MTA International company which is a subsidiary of Türkiye’s General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration.
Niger turns to new partners in post neo-colonialism
Since a successful coup in July 2023, the new National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland based at the capital of Niamey has taken steps to nationalize and establish sovereignty over the country, particularly oustering French presence.
Türkiye and Niger signed a collection of agreements in mid-2024 marking cooperation in the fields of energy, military, and diplomacy.
In late October 2024, Türkiye and Niger signed a comprehensive mining agreement, aiming to develop Niger’s domestic mining industry through exploration and extraction.
