Turkish transportation minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that three factories empowered with solar energy will be established in 2025 for the domestic production of railway vehicles.

In a written statement released from the ministry on Monday, Uraloglu stated that they would prioritize projects for producing domestically designed and manufactured locomotives and train sets under Türkiye Rail System Vehicles Inc. (TURASAS).

He added, “We will build three new factories in 2025: the National Electric Locomotive Manufacturing and Electric Systems facility in Eskisehir, the National Electric Train Set Manufacturing and Testing facility in Sakarya, and the National Rail System Vehicle Parts Manufacturing facility in Sivas.”

Solar power plants to be installed on factory rooftops

Highlighting their goal of ensuring the sustainability of these initiatives, Uraloglu said:

Within the scope of the 2025-2027 Investment Program, we will establish three new factories under TURASAS to enhance the development of rail system vehicles and increase existing production capacities. The foundations for the National Electric Locomotive Manufacturing and Electric Systems facility in Eskisehir, the National Electric Train Set Manufacturing and Testing facility in Sakarya, and the National Rail System Vehicle Parts Manufacturing facility in Sivas will be laid in 2025.

Emphasizing energy efficiency and alignment with the country’s policy of reducing energy intensity, Uraloglu noted that solar power plants would be installed on the rooftops of the factories. “This way, we will take a significant step toward self-sufficient, environmentally friendly, and competitive production by generating our own electricity through the solar energy plants installed on the factory rooftops,” Uraloglu stated.
