Türkiye puts thousands of public vehicles up for sale as part of cost-saving measure
The Turkish Privatization Administration (OIB) has initiated the sale of public vehicles as part of broader cost-saving measures, holding online auctions in collaboration with the Trade Ministry.
So far, the OIB has received requests from various public institutions to sell approximately 1,200 vehicles. In the initial phase, the deadline for bids on 11 vehicles is set for Monday, Jan. 20. Moving forward, it is planned to auction between 80 and 100 vehicles weekly, according to information obtained from OIB, Anadolu Agency reported.
This move is part of the Public Savings and Efficiency Package, which aims to dispose of surplus or obsolete government vehicles and equipment. According to the OIB, the initiative seeks to streamline public inventories, generate revenue to support the state budget and enhance efficiency within government operations.
How to acquire Turkish public vehicles up for sale?
To facilitate the process, the OIB has collaborated with the Trade Ministry, leveraging the “e-auction” system previously used for selling vehicles left in customs. Auctions will be conducted via the eihale.gov.tr platform using an open bidding process, ensuring transparency and speed in sales.
Interested individuals and organizations must register on the website, monitor listings regularly, and submit a cash deposit to participate in the auctions. Winning bidders will be required to collect their vehicles from the respective public institutions and complete registration procedures under their name.
The vehicles listed for sale will remain in the custody of the respective government institutions until purchased, and prospective buyers will have the opportunity to inspect them. Upon completion of the bidding process, vehicles will be handed over directly to successful bidders.
The OIB anticipates strong interest in these second-hand government vehicles, given their potential affordability and reliable maintenance history.
