Türkiye and Niger sign memorandum of understanding on mining cooperation
Türkiye and Niger have officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the mining sector, aiming to explore and exploit mineral resources in specific regions.
The agreement was signed by Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Niger’s Minister of Mines Abarchi Ousmane during a meeting in Istanbul.
Boosting mineral exploration and investment
The agreement outlines the framework for public and private sector companies from Türkiye to actively invest in Niger’s mining industry. It will encourage collaboration between relevant ministries and institutions, focusing on mineral exploration, information exchange and sustainable development.
“We aim to expand cooperation in mineral exploration and support the growth of both countries’ mining sectors,” Bayraktar stated on social media, emphasizing the strategic importance of the deal.
Focus on sustainable development
Both nations aim to use this partnership to promote sustainable development through mining activities, with the goal of mutual economic growth. Capacity building, official meetings and consultations are part of the planned efforts to enhance the collaboration.
This agreement follows Bayraktar’s previous visit to Niger’s capital, Niamey, in July, where both countries signed a declaration of intent to cooperate in oil and natural gas.
