Turkish and Turkish Cypriot officials strategize to enhance bilateral trade and bolster economic collaboration during the Türkiye-TRNC Economic Conference

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Economy and Energy Minister Olgun Amcaoglu, Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gurcan, and Türkiye’s Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) President Rifat Hisarciklioglu attended the Türkiye-TRNC Second Economy Conference organized by the Türkiye-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum.

Gurcan said, “We achieved a trade volume of $2.5 billion with the TRNC in 2023. In addition to increasing our trade volume in the coming years, expanding TRNC’s share in this trade is one of our main objectives.”

Gurcan emphasized their commitment to ensuring the international recognition of the independence and sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots, highlighting the injustice they have faced for years.

Primary focus: Existence, freedom

Gurcan emphasized that their primary focus is safeguarding the existence, freedom, and future of the Turkish Cypriot community and enhancing the resilience of all institutions and bodies in the TRNC through collaborative efforts.

Gurcan underlined their aim to reflect the bonds of brotherhood between the two countries in their economic relations, with the ultimate goal of accelerating Cyprus’ socioeconomic development.

In addition, Gurcan highlighted the agreements reached during the Türkiye-TRNC Joint Committee 12th Term Meeting in January, covering collaboration in trade, customs, e-commerce, product safety, human resources, free zones, health, and legal infrastructure.

The “Türkiye-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum” aims to focus on enhancing bilateral trade and investment relations, as well as improving the investment environment. Hisarciklioglu emphasized their support for TRNC’s integration efforts with the world and their advocacy for TRNC’s representation in international organizations.
