Türkiye advances toward 2053 net zero emissions target: Energy Minister
Türkiye‘s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to its 2053 net zero emission target in a statement shared on his official social media account in honor of World Zero Emissions Day.
Increased share of renewable energy capacity to 58.6%
Minister Bayraktar highlighted the importance of renewable energy in Türkiye’s journey toward reducing carbon emissions, stating, “Ekrem Kucuk was aware of our country’s potential when he was dreaming of a solar and wind power plant during his high school years. With the dreams of many of us like Ekrem Kucuk, we have increased the share of renewable energy installed capacity to 58.6% in the last 23 years.”
He added, “Türkiye is taking strong steps towards the 2053 Net Zero Emission target. Thanks to our renewable energy investments, we prioritize sustainable development by protecting nature. Today, our dreams are becoming reality.”
Renewable energy as key driver
Bayraktar’s message underlined the critical role of renewable energy investments in Türkiye’s efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
The country has made significant progress in expanding its solar, wind, and other renewable energy resources, which now account for more than half of its total installed power capacity.
