Turkish students to study nuclear energy in China under bilateral agreement
Türkiye and China have signed a cooperation agreement on the “Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy,” enabling Turkish students to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in nuclear energy at prestigious Chinese universities starting in the 2025–2026 academic year.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the program aims to train young professionals to support Türkiye’s nuclear energy goals on an international scale.
Educational opportunities at top Chinese universities
The program, coordinated by Türkiye Nuclear Energy AS (TUNAS), will send selected Turkish students to two prominent institutions:
- Harbin Engineering University: Offering three-year master’s and four-year doctoral programs.
- Tsinghua University: Providing a two-year master’s program.
All programs will be conducted entirely in English, ensuring accessibility for qualified candidates.
Financial support and benefits for students
Under the agreement, tuition, accommodation, health insurance and round-trip airfare will be fully covered by Türkiye and China. Additionally:
- Students at Tsinghua University will receive a monthly stipend of 4,500 yuan ($614).
- Master’s students at Harbin Engineering University will receive 3,000 yuan ($409) monthly.
- Doctoral candidates at Harbin Engineering University will receive 3,500 yuan ($478) monthly.
Students will also benefit from free Chinese language courses to facilitate their integration during their stay in China.
