Faruk Eczacibasi, Chairman of the Turkish Informatics Foundation (TBV), has forecasted that Türkiye’s economic recovery from the ongoing crisis may take up to two years.

Speaking at the launch event for the 16th “eTR Awards,” organized in partnership with Tusaid, Eczacibasi shared his insights on the future of foreign investments in Türkiye.

He expressed optimism that, although the recovery will be gradual, it will eventually lead to increased foreign interest across various sectors.

Understanding eTR Awards

The eTR Awards, now in its 16th iteration, recognize projects that significantly contribute to the widespread and effective use of e-Government applications in the public sector.

These awards aim to encourage public institutions to accelerate their e-government initiatives and motivate the private sector to support this digital transformation.

Impact of digital transformation

Eczacibasi emphasized the importance of legal frameworks and bureaucratic adaptability in the digitalization and transformation processes.

Responding to a question about the potential influx of foreign investments post-crisis, he noted that this development would not be limited to digital transformation but would extend to Türkiye’s overall economic structure.

We may not recover quickly, but slowly, over the course of two years, I believe we will lift ourselves out of this crisis. Following that, we can expect some movement in this area

Global transformation, Türkiye’s response

Orhan Turan, President of Tusaid, also spoke at the event, highlighting the critical role of technology in all sectors.

He stressed that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Türkiye are particularly lagging in this area.

Without focusing on technology, we no longer have the option to conduct business in any sector. We must address issues related to both capital and employment and continue to produce solutions by listening to all stakeholders. A global transformation is underway, and Türkiye cannot afford to miss this change
