Turkish Finance Minister to speak at Chatham House event on Jan. 16
Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Simsek, is set to speak at a high-profile event hosted by the London-based think tank Chatham House on Jan. 16.
The discussion will focus on Türkiye’s strategy for navigating the global economic landscape.
Türkiye’s economic trajectory under spotlight
The event, titled “How does Türkiye navigate global economic (dis)order?” will be chaired by Professor Sanam Vakil, Director of Chatham House’s Middle East and North Africa Program.
According to the official Chatham House announcement, the discussion will address ongoing geopolitical risks, economic fragmentation, and power rivalries that continue to shape global markets.
The world is becoming increasingly fragmented and fractured. Looming on the horizons are trade and tariff wars. This economic picture is further compounded by the growing geopolitical risks and tensions and great power rivalry.
Despite these trends, Türkiye’s economic outlook was on a positive track in 2024, while the global one remained more uncertain. Against this background, HE Minister Simsek will share his perspective and projections on the state of the Turkish and global economies for the year ahead.

The statement also highlighted Türkiye’s relatively positive economic trajectory in 2024 compared with global uncertainties. Simsek is expected to share insights on Türkiye’s economic strategies and his outlook for the global economy in the year ahead.
Simsek’s previous appearance at Chatham House
In June of last year, Simsek addressed investors at another Chatham House event, offering perspectives on Türkiye’s economy and foreign policy.
During that discussion, he responded to a question about Türkiye’s potential BRICS membership, emphasizing Türkiye’s strong economic ties with the European Union and the importance of maintaining them.
