Turkish Finance Minister Simsek holds phone call with US counterpart Bessent

Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek held a phone call on Monday with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss bilateral economic relations, according to sources from the Turkish Treasury and Finance Ministry.
During the conversation, Simsek congratulated Bessent on his recent appointment under the Trump administration. Bessent, who took office in late January, expressed his commitment to strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
The two ministers discussed various aspects of Türkiye-U.S. economic cooperation, focusing on expanding trade and investment opportunities. They agreed that deepening financial collaboration between the two countries would contribute to stability in global markets.
Simsek and Bessent also agreed to meet in person at the earliest opportunity to continue their discussions in more detail. They are expected to hold a face-to-face meeting in Washington, D.C., during the annual IMF-World Bank meetings, scheduled for April 21-26.
The phone call, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, provided both sides with a platform to exchange views on economic policies and explore ways to enhance bilateral financial relations.
