Turkish factory Biosys exports respiratory devices to 41 countries
‘We have succeeded in being a breath for both our country and the world,’ factory manager Assoc. Prof. Dr. Musa Yilmaz says
In Batman Organize Sanayi Bolgesi (OSB), respiratory devices manufactured in a factory are exported to 41 countries.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Biosys, a domestic producer of respiratory devices, collaborated with Arcelik, ASELSAN, and Baykar under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
Both, in collaboration, inaugurated a factory in Batman OSB on March 6 of this year, with the presence of the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek and Mehmet the Minister of Industry and Technology Fatih Kacir.
The factory produces mechanical ventilators (respiratory devices), humidifiers, high-flow oxygen therapy devices and neuromonitoring devices. Its medical devices, which are produced with 100% domestic resources and high technology, are sold in 41 countries.
100% domestic production
Justice Minister Yılmaz TunçYilmaz stated that Biosys company started its R&D studies within the scope of TUBITAK and R&D Product Development Programs with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and produced the mechanical ventilator device, known as a respiratory device among the public, as their first product.
“As Biosys, we produce all hardware, software, electronic components, and parts locally. Apart from basic consumables, we do not import any products, and 100% of Biosys is software, hardware, and electronic components made here,” Yilmaz stated.
Breath for Türkiye and the world during COVID-19
Yilmaz, who emphasized that the respiratory device provided breath to patients in Türkiye and many countries during the pandemic period, recalled that they finalized the product through joint work within the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Ministry of Health, and exported it to many countries during the pandemic.
“We have succeeded in being a breath for our country and the world. This is a proud situation for us,” said Yilmaz, stating that they established a factory in Batman OSB to carry out all their work independently as a company.
5th company in the world producing respiratory devices
The minister further said that they are one of the five companies in the world producing respiratory devices.
“During the pandemic, we emerged as the 5th company as Biosys, apart from the four major companies producing respiratory devices worldwide. We meet the respiratory device needs of Türkiye but also export to many countries. Since the respiratory device is a highly technological device, it is not a medical device that every country can produce. We do this and have now reached a point where we can compete with our competitors,” Yilmaz added.
South Africa to become 41st country
Yılmaz stated that mechanical ventilators, humidifiers, high-flow oxygen therapy devices, and neuromonitors are produced in the factory, and added that studies on endoscopic capsules are also ongoing.
Yılmaz expressed that they have exported to 40 countries, and as the 41st country, they made their first export from Batman to South Africa, saying: “As Biosys, we exported to South America during the pandemic period. We applied to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to export to North America. We are waiting in the approval process. After being approved by the end of this year, we plan to open to the North American market and then export to China and Australia from there.”
