Turkish Airlines and the UN World Tourism Organization join forces for sustainable tourism
Turkish Airlines (THY) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for sustainable tourism.
According to a statement from the THY Press Office, the memorandum aims to promote sustainable tourism practices and the development of aviation.
Focusing on expanding public and private sector cooperation to support progress in air connectivity in emerging destinations, the memorandum aims for both parties to leverage their expertise and engage in knowledge exchange, particularly on topics such as sustainable aviation fuel.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the THY Board of Directors and Executive Committee, expressed the following regarding the memorandum:
“We are excited to embark on a journey of strategic partnership with UN Tourism to promote sustainable tourism and strengthen global connectivity. This potential partnership highlights our role as a global airline that brings people and cultures together, showcasing our commitment to sustainable tourism.”
Ion Vilcu, Director of Affiliate Members at the UNWTO, commented:
“With the signing of the memorandum, we are committing to a partnership to advance our dedication to sustainable and responsible tourism. Turkish Airlines is a global leader in supporting tourism and cultural exchange. This historic day will undoubtedly enable us to promote civic engagement, cultural diversity, and highlight local heritage.”
The signing ceremony took place in Madrid, attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Spain, Nuket Kucukel Ezberci.
