Türkiye’s state-owned telecommunication company, Turk Telekom, announced a strategic partnership with public and private sector stakeholders to develop domestic smart devices and communications equipment, reinforcing Türkiye’s ambition to become a technology-producing nation.

According to a statement from the company on Saturday, the initiative—part of the “National and Domestic Communication Device” project—will focus on developing locally produced smartphones, devices, operating systems, telecommunications equipment, hardware, and software.

Turk Telekom CEO Umit Onal emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming Türkiye from a technology consumer into a global technology producer and exporter, noting that Turk Telekom’s subsidiaries, Argela and Netsia, hold more than 70 international patents, highlighting the group’s innovative capabilities.

“We have signed major agreements with some of the world’s leading technology companies to commercialize the technologies we’ve developed. Our synchronization product, developed with Net Insight, has been commercialized. Our Open RAN solutions, RIC and SEBA, are now being used globally,” he said.

He added that the partnership affirms Turk Telekom’s identity not only as a telecom operator but also as a technology company shaping Türkiye’s future. As the sector’s top investor, Onal underlined that all the company’s investments are aligned with 5G compatibility.

Highlighting the company’s active role in the deployment of domestic 5G technologies, Onal said, “We view this strategic collaboration—aimed at strengthening our country’s global competitiveness in the tech sector—as a key step in shaping Türkiye’s technology-driven future.”
