Turkish and Tunisian businesspeople gathered in the industrial zone of the coastal city of Monastir, located 150 kilometers (93.2 miles) south of the capital Tunis, to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership in the textile sector on Friday.

Iskander el-Haj Mebruk, Secretary-General of the Tunis-Africa Business Council’s Sahel office, emphasized the significance of the interactions between the two countries’ business communities during an interview with Anadolu Agency (AA).

Mebruk noted that 20 Turkish companies, comprising producers, suppliers, and businesspeople seeking new partnerships with their Tunisian counterparts in the textile sector, attended the meeting.

“What makes this meeting unique is its focus not only on trade but also on industrial partnerships. Turkish investors are looking to establish new industrial ventures with Tunisian companies in the textile sector,” he said.

‘We highly value our Turkish brothers’ visit’

“Several Tunisian companies also participated in the meeting,” Mebruk stated. “It is possible to form partnerships with Turkish counterparts to enter the African market. This is precisely what the Tunis-Africa Business Council is working on.”

He explained the Council aims to serve as a bridge connecting African investors with Turkish, European, and Asian partners.

Mebruk also mentioned that the Council organizes an annual trade forum every May, bringing together African and European businesspeople to foster new partnerships.

“Türkiye is part of the global economy, so why shouldn’t we further develop this commercial and industrial cooperation? We highly value the visit of our Turkish brothers to Tunisia and their participation in this meeting,” he added.

Regarding the Council’s role, Mebruk highlighted that since its establishment a decade ago, the organization has organized 40 trips to African markets, facilitating numerous partnerships that have paved the way for increased Tunisian exports to the continent.
