Togg, Turkish indigenous electric car, gears up for European dominance

The Minister of Industry and Technology heralded Togg’s European debut, pinpointing Germany as the starting point for its venture into the market, slated for early 2025

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir made statements during a live broadcast regarding the entry of Türkiye’s first domestic electric car model, Togg, into the European market.

“We are witnessing the birth of a brand that pioneers the transformation of the entire sector. Togg will step into Germany at the beginning of 2025, marking its entry into the European market,” Minister Kacir stated.

Minister Kacir emphasized the significance of Togg, highlighting that the world has witnessed the emergence of not just a new car brand but a brand that pioneers the transformation of the entire sector.

Nearly 30,000 Toggs hit the roads

Minister Kacir announced today that the number of Togg vehicles on the roads is approaching 30,000, stating: “Togg is not only a leader in the electric vehicle class but also the market leader among SUV models.”

The Minister announced Togg’s entry into the European market, stating that this journey would start with Germany at the beginning of 2025.

“During the same period, the ‘fastback’ model, which was introduced in Las Vegas in recent months, is also targeted to enter the market. Togg will have further advancements in the coming period,” he said.

Togg enhanced with AI

Minister Kacir also provided insights into the technological innovations of Togg, Türkiye’s national car brand.

“Türkiye will become a significant battery production center globally in the coming period. It will be crucial for Togg to enhance its capabilities in autonomous driving and artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, software developments are ongoing, with facial recognition among the latest innovations.”

Togg to be used in the public sector more

“The use of Togg in the public sector will become increasingly widespread,” stated Minister Kacir, commenting on the savings and efficiency package Minister of Treasury and Economy Mehmet Simsek announced.

“The Savings and Efficiency Package in the public sector is multifaceted. We will take necessary steps with the Ministry and all affiliated institutions to ensure the most effective realization of the set goals.”

Commenting especially on the vehicle aspect of the package, Minister Kacir drew attention to the use of Togg.

“The use of Togg in the public sector will become increasingly widespread. As the Ministry, we will continue to lead this process as we have done so far. In the future, we will ensure the further proliferation of Togg preference among our administrators and across all platforms in the public sector,” Kacir maintained.

1 out of every 3 electric cars sold was a Togg

Türkiye’s electric car market leader in the first quarter of the year was Togg, with 4,145 vehicles sold. Togg realized 4,145 sales between January and March, surpassing its closest competitor by 2,533 units.

According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Togg, which continues to rise among electric car brands, maintained its market leadership in the first quarter of the year.

Following Togg, German brands ranked in the top 3, followed by South Korean brands. Looking at the electric car market on a model basis, the Togg T10X was the best-selling model. The BMW 5 Series ranked second, Ssangyong Torres third, MG4 fourth, and Atto 3 fifth.

Tesla, the U.S.-based car manufacturer that sold 375 cars in three months, did not make it to the top 10.

Togg established in 2018

Established in 2018 by Anadolu Group, BMC, Turkcell, Zorlu Holding, and TOBB, Türkiye’s Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG) commenced its initial activities in Istanbul. By the end of 2019, the company relocated to the Gebze region of Kocaeli.

Subsequently, the automobile factory was established in the Gemlik district of Bursa, where its SUV and sedan models were unveiled during a press conference on December 27, 2019.

Commencing its operations initially in Istanbul, the company moved to the Gebze region of Kocaeli in 2019. Established on October 29, 2022, the Togg Gemlik factory, covering an area of 1.2 million square meters, also serves as a production hub.
