Tesla falls short as BYD shatters sale records in 2024
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD achieved a remarkable milestone, 4.25 million vehicle sales by 41% increase compared to 2023, setting a new record.
On the other hand, U.S.-based Tesla delivered 1.78 million vehicles in 2024, falling short of analysts’ projections of 1.8 million and its 2023 delivery figure of the same amount.
BYD, which transitioned to fully electric models in 2022, has seen significant growth in sales over the past two years, driven by its hybrid and electric offerings. The company continues to dominate the global EV market, outpacing traditional manufacturers.
The contrast between BYD and Tesla is stark, as Tesla delivered 495,570 EVs in the last quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, BYD achieved 509,440 hybrid and electric vehicle sales in December alone.
BYD surpass 6,000 sales in the Turkish market following the first debut
In Türkiye, BYD reported sales of 6,591 vehicles over 32 days from its first debut in the Turkish market on Nov. 15.
The company introduced six models for Türkiye, including the flagship E-segment sedan “HAN,” the all-electric all-wheel-drive D-segment sedan “SEAL AWD,” the electric hatchback “DOLPHIN,” the all-electric D-SUV “SEAL U EV,” the plug-in hybrid D-SUV “SEAL U DM-i,” and the all-electric C-SUV “ATTO 3.”
“Following our November 15 launch, we successfully delivered 6,591 vehicles to customers in just 32 days, closing the year on a high note. With a total of 4,525 SEAL U DM-i sales in 2024, I anticipate BYD becoming the leader in Türkiye’s plug-in hybrid market,” Ismail Ergun, General Manager of BYD Türkiye, expressed confidence in maintaining this momentum into 2025.
