AROYA Cruises has chosen Galataport Istanbul—one of the region’s leading cruise destinations—as its main port of call in the Mediterranean, meaning cruises will both start and end their journeys in Istanbul, allowing passengers to embark and disembark at the same location.

The cruise line will begin docking at Galataport on June 21, 2025, with weekly Saturday departures continuing through mid-September, and approximately 90,000 passengers are expected to board AROYA cruises during the year.

Commenting on the partnership, Galataport Istanbul CEO İlhan Sipahi said the port’s unique features make it a preferred hub for major cruise operators. “AROYA Cruises’ decision to select Galataport as its homeport among all Mediterranean options is a source of great pride.

This partnership enables us to showcase the full range of experiences Galataport and Istanbul have to offer to passengers from Saudi Arabia, Istanbul, and around the world,” he added.

AROYA Cruises President Dr. Joerg Rudolph welcomed the launch. “We are excited to bring AROYA Cruises to the Mediterranean, and we believe Galataport Istanbul is the ideal choice as our main port. We invite travelers from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and beyond to experience AROYA and the beauty of Istanbul,” he said.

Galataport to expand reach with AROYA

Galataport Istanbul features the world’s first underground cruise terminal, spanning 29,000 square meters, with a patented hatch system. All passenger and baggage operations, including passport control, customs, and vehicle access, are managed below ground—ensuring efficient service while preserving uninterrupted sea views.

The port also offers a central location, modern infrastructure, and access to high-end dining, shopping, and cultural venues, reinforcing its appeal as AROYA’s homeport.

As the first Arab-owned cruise line, AROYA Cruises offers a distinct “Arab-style experience” as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative. The ship features 29 restaurants, 20 entertainment venues—including a large theater with nightly shows—a world-class spa, two pools, and one of the largest children’s play areas in the industry, with activities such as zip lining and mini golf.

AROYA’s operations are expected to support Türkiye’s tourism targets, as cruise passengers using Istanbul as a homeport typically generate economic activity estimated to be around six times higher than that of regular tourists.
