Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to launch flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen to Cairo Sphinx Airport, marking its fifth destination in Egypt
Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport continues to bolster its global network with new flight destinations. Pegasus Airlines has commenced flights from Sabiha Gokcen to Sphinx Airport in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, effective March 15. 2024.
Ranked among Europe’s top 10 busiest airports and closing in 2023 with an all-time passenger traffic record, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is expanding its global footprint with new routes. Starting on March 15, 2024, Pegasus Airlines inaugurated flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) to Cairo Sphinx (SPX), operating five times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Sphinx Airport, located near the city of Giza to the west of Cairo, is a favored destination for those keen on exploring the ancient wonders such as the pyramids at the Old Egyptian Royal Necropolis and other historic monuments. This new route marks Sabiha Gokcen’s fifth destination in Egypt, following Cairo (CAI), Alexandria, Hurghada, and Sharm el-Sheikh. The Sphinx connection offers significant comfort, convenience, and competitive pricing for both business and leisure travelers.
With the recent inauguration of its second runway, Sabiha Gokcen has increased its capacity, currently serving a total of 164 destinations across 54 countries, including 40 domestic and 124 international connections. Continuing its upward trajectory, Sabiha Gokcen has seen a surge in passenger numbers in the early months of 2024, setting new records.
“We are once again bridging two ancient cities of the world,” remarked Serhat Sogukpinar, CEO of the ISG Executive Board. “Sabiha Gokcen Airport, known as the ‘City Airport’ for its transportation diversity and proximity to urban centers, is a vital link connecting Istanbul with the world, offering historical, cultural, natural, trade, and educational opportunities. With Pegasus’ newly launched flights, our fifth destination in Egypt, the Sphinx connection, we believe will provide convenience and comfort to numerous passengers at both ends, given the rich cultural and ancient history of Egypt. We will continue our efforts to increase our destination count and strengthen our partnerships through new collaborations. We wish success to our country.”
